E.ON: Turning asset complexity into intelligent performance

Can smarter asset management unlock a more resilient energy future?

E.ON Energia and E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions Italia, the Group’s ESCo division in Italy, are at the forefront of Europe’s energy transition, balancing the urgency of sustainability with the need for operational excellence. As its infrastructure grew more complex, so did the challenge of maintaining performance, visibility and control across distributed assets. To continue delivering reliable energy while advancing its environmental commitments, E.ON needed to rethink how maintenance and asset management could evolve: from fragmented processes into a connected, intelligent system.

“It was a pleasure collaborating with Avvale during this project, for three main reasons. First, their highly flexible approach allowed them to continuously adapt, even when new customer requirements were introduced during the development. Second, they were able to align effectively with the project’s time constraints. Finally, their holistic approach enabled them to suggest further improvements to our processes, even when these were not directly related to the project at hand.”

Reimagining maintenance as a strategic capability

workflow

Avvale partnered with E.ON to reshape asset management into a proactive, insight-driven function.
Working side by side, the teams co-designed a new approach where maintenance activities became seamlessly orchestrated, supported by real-time data and integrated workflows. Enabled by a robust digital core and harmonized processes, asset management evolved into a connected experience, where plant operators could anticipate needs, act faster and make more informed decisions.
Avvale’s TMP solution was introduced as an enabler of new behaviors. Automated workflows replaced manual tasks, while centralized visibility allowed teams to monitor performance and documentation effortlessly. Built on enterprise-grade technologies such as SAP S/4HANA, the transformation ensured scalability, reliability and integration across the entire operational landscape.

From reactive maintenance to predictive control

assets management

The transformation marked a decisive shift in how E.ON manages its assets, delivering measurable improvements across operations.
Automated workflows and scheduled maintenance notifications reduced overdue planned maintenance activities by 25%, improving coordination with suppliers and helping contain operational delays across maintenance processes. Centralized document management improved compliance and reduced audit preparation time by 40%, giving teams greater confidence and control. Finally, with real-time tracking and customizable site structures, plant operators gained detailed visibility over thousands of assets, enabling more efficient replacements.
Beyond measurable results, the real impact lies in the way E.ON now operates: with greater confidence, control and agility. Asset management has evolved from a necessary function into a driver of performance and resilience.

Key Enhancements

Managing asset performance in a fragmented landscape

As a leading energy provider, E.ON operates in a context where uptime and performance are critical. Yet maintenance and asset management processes were fragmented and largely manual, limiting visibility and slowing decision-making.

This lack of centralization required more effort for the E.ON structure to track asset health, ensure compliance and manage documentation effectively. Inefficiencies translated into increased downtime, while disconnected workflows prevented a holistic view of operations.
To overcome these challenges, E.ON sought a partner capable of combining industry expertise with a strategic, outcome-driven approach. The goal was clear: streamline operations, improve transparency and empower plant operators with the tools needed to enhance reliability and control.
